GET SHRIMPY!!!
Freshwater Shrimp Care - October General Meeting

October General Meeting:
Friday, October 2nd at 7:30pm

Program: Low-Tech Planted Shrimp Tank Demonstration. (Freshwater Shrimp)

We will be giving a talk on setting up a small, low-tech, planted shrimp tank at our upcoming general meeting. The talk will cover the basics of setting up a low-tech planted tank with easy-to-grow plants that make a suitable habitat for many of the popular varieties of shrimp we see in the hobby today. We will focus on the care of cherry shrimp and crystal shrimp, but a lot of the info will be applicable to other types of shrimp.

During the talk, we will be demonstrating the techniques used in creating one of these interesting and easy to maintain tanks.  We would like everyone to feel free to bring a small tank to the demo (5g-10g size) to create your own as we explain the process. If you are not experienced with planted tanks, please bring in your tank lid and light so we can determine the best lighting option for your fixture and tank.

We will be putting together, for sale and use during the demo (or for you to take home and do yourself), some packages of driftwood, rock, and starter plants to decorate these tanks.  There will be a limited number of packages available, so please contact Lori before the meeting so we can make sure to bring enough for everyone. If you would prefer, you can bring your own plants and decorations. Additionally, we will bring some different substrates to use for this project.  Again, please contact Lori beforehand so we can make sure to bring sufficient quantities.  Lori will have  lots of cherry shrimp for sale.  Karen will be bringing Crystal Red Shrimp (Grades S, S+, & SS) that will also be available for sale at great prices for CAS members......so if you missed out on getting some at the auction last weekend, now is your opportunity to take home some of these beautiful shrimp. If you are interested in purchasing shrimp, or one of the tank starter packs, but are not ready to take them home after the demo, we will be taking orders to be picked up at the November member's meeting.

This demo can be as hands on as you would like. So, bring a tank and play along, or just bring a notebook and jot down what you find useful for when you are ready to set up your own planted shrimp tank!

Note:  Tanks that have used copper treatments (usually those with blue tinted seals) are not good for shrimp.

See you there!
~Lori Tucker & Karen Monroe~
